The value of a smile

There is a fundamental principle of life that says “We reap according to that which we sow”. So I have determined to sow good positive stuff where ever and when ever I possibly can, and you know what, my experience is, (surprise! surprise!) the principle works. So why not give it a go today. Here’s a really practical way to start and it’s actually a lot of fun: Try giving away a smile to everyone you see for the rest of the day. It won’t cost you anything because smiles are completely free, but they are in fact quite valuable in terms of the benefits they give. The most normal response when...

The Wallet

The Wallet
This lovely little story will touch the romantic in you… As I walked home one freezing day, I stumbled on a wallet someone had lost in the street. I picked it up and looked inside to find some identification so I could call the owner. But the wallet contained only three dollars and a crumpled letter that looked as if it had been in there for years. The envelope was worn and the only thing that was legible on it was the return address. I started to open the letter, hoping to find some clue. Then I saw the dateline–1924. The letter had been written almost sixty years ago. It was written in a...

Life is like an arcade game

I was walking past a games arcade recently and I thought life is like an arcade game. In an arcade game there are different levels. You have to succeed at each level, before you reach the ultimate prize and you don’t get to pass on from your current level until you succeed and pass the tests of that level. Your achievements accumulate as you pass through each level of the game advancing towards the ultimate prize (what ever that may be). This is so like life, because life accumulates. Everyday we face choices and decisions and the decisions we make today will deliver certain results or outcomes to...

Time is life

In my last post I talked about the concept of time as the universal currency. Today I would like to introduce another thought. “Time is Life” If you think about it, time and life are really the same thing. Have you ever played the board game Monopoly? If you have you will know that when ever you pass go you get another $200. Well life is the same; when ever you pass midnight you get another 24 hours (assuming of course it’s not your very last day on this earth). You have exactly one day to live out that 24 hours and you get to live one minute of your life very 60 seconds. So in essence time is...

The universal currency

There is one currency that is the same in every country across the globe. We all get to use some of it every day. I call this the “Universal Currency.” The universal currency has some very interesting qualities: You only get a predetermined and limited amount of it each day. You have to use it as you get it. You can’t save any of it for use on another day. The universal currency is the most valuable currency of all, But you cannot buy it. You get your allotted portion free each day. Every body gets allotted the same amount each day. You can do three things with each days allotment. Waste...

The Glasses

Sometimes encouragement comes in mysterious ways… and when we least expect it. Here is one of those little stories that touches me every time I read it.  I don’t know where I got it from,  but I have it in my files and I thought you might enjoy it too” Mother’s father worked as a carpenter.  On this particular day, he was building some crates for the clothes his church was sending to some orphanage in China. On his way home, he reached into his shirt pocket to find his glasses, but they were gone.  When he mentally replayed his earlier actions, he realized what happened;...
